President Trump Approves Disaster Declaration For California Wildfires

President Trump approved a disaster declaration for California to funnel federal aid to affected regions devastated by wildfires in the state. According to a White House statement, those areas include Lake, Napa, San Mateo, Santa Cruz, Solano, Sonoma, and Yolo counties.

Hundreds of active fires in those areas have already burned around 1 million acres and California is also battling two of the largest fires in the state’s history: the 314,000-acre LNU Lightning Complex Fire in the northern Bay Area and Central Valley, and the 291,000-acre SCU Lightning Complex Fire largely east of San Jose.

Gov. Gavin Newsom thanked the President for approving the disaster relief in a statement: “Thank you to the President for your partnership and granting this urgent Major Disaster Declaration,” Newsom. California is battling two of the largest fires in our history and has seen nearly 600 new fires in the last week caused by dry lightning strikes. These are unprecedented times and conditions, but California is strong – we will get through this.” Newsom has said the current wave of fires are due to extraordinary weather in the state, noting that California has recorded more than 11,000 lightning strikes over the past 72 hours.

Trump Senior Advisor Kellyanne Conway To Depart White House At End Of Month

Kellyanne Conway, a senior adviser to President Donald Trump and one of his longest-serving aides, is leaving the White House at the end of the month. Conway, whose title is counselor to the president, was the first woman to manage a presidential campaign to victory. Conway informed the President of her decision Sunday night in the Oval Office. In a statement, Conway said she and her husband, George Conway, were making the decision based on what they think is best for their four children.

Conway wrote of herself and her husband: “We disagree about plenty, but we are united on what matters most: the kids. Our four children are teens and ‘tweens starting a new academic year in the middle school and high school that will be conducted remotely from home for a least a few months. As millions of parents nationwide know, kids ‘doing school from home’ requires a level of attention and vigilance that is as unusual as these times. This is completely my choice and my voice. In time, I will announce future plans. For now, and for my beloved children, it will less drama, more mama.” George Conway, a conservative lawyer and outspoken critic of the president, is stepping back from his role on the Lincoln Project, an outside group of Republicans devoted to defeating Trump in November.

Conway’s announcement comes on the eve of the Republican National Convention. Conway has been intimately involved in the convention planning, and will be speaking Wednesday night about the theme of “everyday heroes.”

FDA Issues Emergency Use Authorization Of Convalescent Plasma For Covid-19

President Trump on Sunday announced that the Food and Drug Administration has issued an emergency use authorization for the use of convalescent plasma for COVID-19 patients. Trump called the move “historic” and claimed the treatment will “save countless lives.”

The FDA said more than 70,000 patients have been treated with convalescent plasma, which is taken from people who have recovered from COVID-19.  The FDA added that the “known and potential benefits of the product outweigh the known and potential risks of the product.”

There is no conclusive evidence that using convalescent plasma works, and additional data will be forthcoming from other analyses and ongoing, well-controlled clinical trials in the coming months.

President Trump Urges Goodyear Tire Boycott After Company Bans Political Attire

U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday called for a boycott of Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co, accusing the company of “playing politics” by forbidding workers from donning “Make America Great Again” hats and other political attire worn by Trump supporters.

Trump wrote on Twitter, “Don’t buy GOODYEAR TIRES – They announced a BAN ON MAGA HATS,” referring to his slogan “Make America Great Again” often emblazoned on baseball caps. The President also said at a White House briefing, “I’m not happy with Goodyear because what they’re doing is playing politics.”

Goodyear has said, however, that a widely circulated image that triggered the controversy was not created or distributed by the company’s corporate group. The image detailed appropriate and inappropriate examples of attire, with ‘Black Lives Matter’ and ‘Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Pride’ deemed acceptable, while ‘Blue Lives Matter’ and ‘MAGA Attire’ were not. “To be clear on our longstanding corporate policy, Goodyear has zero tolerance for any form of harassment or discrimination,” the company said in a statement.
