Denver Police Identify Suspect In Fatal Shooting Near Opposing Protests

On Sunday, Denver authorities identified the security guard who was arrested after a fatal shooting near dueling protests by left-wing and right-wing demonstrators. The Denver Police Department said in a statement that Matthew Dolloff, 30, was being held for investigation of first-degree murder in a shooting Saturday outside the Denver Art Museum that left one man dead. Dolloff was being held without bond.

Authorities have not identified the victim of the shooting. The protests had taken place earlier at Denver’s Civic Center, where people had gathered for a “Patriot Rally” and a Black Lives Matter-antifa “soup drive.”  In an apparent response to social media posts linking Dolloff to the anti-fascist movement, the department said it was “unaware of whether the suspect is personally affiliated with any political organization.”

A Denver police official, Joe Montoya, said a verbal altercation preceded the shooting, which occurred as the protests were winding down. Photos of the confrontation captured by a Denver Post photographer appeared to show a man spraying something at another man with a handgun. Montoya said that video had been recovered, but he declined to provide details. He said two guns and a can of mace were found from the scene. He said investigators were still trying to determine what happened.

13 Arrest In Failed Plot To Kidnap Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer

Prosecutors said on Thursday that thirteen people, including seven men associated with the Wolverine Watchmen militia group, have been arrested for alleged plots to take the Michigan governor hostage and attack the state capitol building. The group aimed to kidnap Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer ahead of the Nov. 3 presidential election, according to a criminal complaint filed in a Michigan federal court. The criminal complaint said the alleged plotters discussed recruiting a force of 200 to storm the state capitol in Lansing and take hostages, but later abandoned the plan in favor of a scheme to kidnap Whitmer at her vacation home.

Andrew Birge, the U.S. attorney for the western district of Michigan, said the FBI became aware through social media that a group of people were discussing the “violent overthrow” of Michigan’s government, prompting a months-long investigation that relied heavily on confidential sources. The group of six facing federal charges — Adam Fox, Barry Croft, Ty Garbin, Kaleb Franks, Daniel Harris and Brandon Caserta — could be sentenced to life in prison if convicted on charges of attempting to kidnap Whitmer, Birge said told an earlier news conference to announce the charges. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel disclosed additional charges against seven men affiliated with the Wolverine Watchmen militia group suspected of violating the state’s anti-terrorism act by conspiring to kidnap the governor and propagate violence.

At a news conference, Whitmer accused President Trump of encouraging extremist groups like the “sick and depraved men” that targeted her, citing his refusal to condemn white supremacists at the recent U.S. presidential debate against Joe Biden as an example. “When our leaders meet with, encourage and fraternize with domestic terrorists they legitimize their actions, and they are complicit,” Whitmer said. “We are not one another’s enemy.”

President Trump Rejects Virtual Town Hall Debate With Democratic Nominee Joe Biden

On Thursday, President Donald Trump announced he is refusing to participate in an Oct. 15 debate – planned as a town hall-style conversation – with Democratic rival Joe Biden after it was changed to a virtual event to guard against the spread of COVID-19.  The announcement prompted Biden to book a solo televised town hall-style event instead.

The President criticized the format change announced by the nonpartisan The Commission on Presidential Debates and expressed concern that his microphone could be cut off.  “I’m not going to waste my time on a virtual debate. That’s not what debating is all about,” Trump said in a nearly hour-long phone interview with Fox Business. “You sit behind a computer and do a debate – it’s ridiculous, and then they cut you off whenever they want.”

The Biden and Trump campaigns had proposed pushing back the debate until Oct. 22, the date of what was scheduled as their final and 3rd face-off before the Nov. 3 election. Trump’s campaign also proposed holding another debate on Oct. 29, which Biden’s campaign rejected.

Biden’s campaign quickly arranged a town hall-style event in Philadelphia on Oct. 15 to be hosted by ABC News in lieu of the debate. After Trump said he would not take part, the Biden campaign issued a statement saying the commission should move the town-hall format debate to Oct. 22 to give voters a chance to question the candidates. Trump’s campaign then issued a statement agreeing to push the encounter to Oct. 22, proposed a third debate a week later. However a Biden aide said the Oct. 22 debate should be the final one.

Vice President Mike Pence And Senator Kamala Harris Face Off In Vice-Presidential Debte

The vice presidential debate between Sen. Kamala Harris and Vice President Mike Pence was held on Wednesday night, and the COVID-19 pandemic took center stage between the two candidates.

The debate was held just two days after President Donald Trump was discharged from Walter Reed National Military Medical Center where he received treatment for the coronavirus for three days following a positive test days after his first presidential debate with Democratic nominee Joe Biden. The Commission on Presidential Debates expanded COVID-19 safety precautions as Harris and Pence were spaced 12 feet apart for their debate, instead of the 7 feet originally planned, and separated by plexiglass.

The Trump administration’s handling of the pandemic were discussed throughout the debate ranging from healthcare to the economy, as well as racial tensions throughout the country, and the nomination of a new justice to the Supreme Court.

Shawn Mendes Addresses Speculation On Collaboration With Justin Bieber

Shawn Mendes is responding to reports that he and fellow Canadian native Justin Bieber are teaming up for some new music together. Shawn’s fourth studio album Wonder drops on Dec. 4 and he’s now tackling rumors about a collaboration with Bieber.

Mendes appeared on the UK’s Capital FM Breakfast with Roman Kemp and alluded to the fact that the gossip might be true. “I wonder if it’s true Shawn, that you turned down a collaboration with Justin Bieber last month,” the host asked the singer. “Is this you trying to get me to confirm that I have a collaboration with Justin Bieber? Shawn replied.  Mendes then said,  “If I turned one down, that would be insane considering he’s been one of my favorite artists since I was like nine-years-old. I cannot confirm or deny.”

Mendes also revealed that “In the last six months we’ve definitely become a lot closer. It’s really cool to have him has a mentor in a lot of ways, just to kind of talk through stuff a little bit cause there’s not many people who do this type of stuff.”
