Take look at the video for twenty one pilots’ ‘Backslide’ directed by Josh Dun

Twenty One Pilots drummer Josh Dun makes his directorial debut in the just-released video for their song, “Backslide” off their upcoming album, Clancy.

Backslide is the follow-up to the previously-released singles ‘Overcompensate’ and ‘Next Semester,’ and the visual finds singer Tyler Joseph tooling around town on his red and black BMX bike in what appears to be a Groundhog Day-type scenario.  The video also features throwbacks to other moments in the duo’s discography including the bike riding in ‘Stressed Out’, their mascot Ned from the ‘Chlorine’ video, and more.

Last week in a message to fans, frontman Tyler Joseph confirmed that the album’s release would be moving back a week to May 24 in order to allow them to make a music video for every song on the record.  Said Joseph: “When I first told Josh [Dun] and Mark [Eshleman] and everyone on our team that I wanted to do a music video for every song on the album ‘Clancy’ that’s coming up, I told them it’s because I love these songs and I believe in them enough to pretend to sing in front of a camera to each one. And that’s what we’re going to do, because that’s how I want to present this album. But because of that, in order to accomplish that, we need a little bit more time – that’s why I’m making this video. We’re going to push the album back by one week, to May 24th.”

SZA to be honored by Songwriters Hall of Fame with Hal David Starlight award

Billboard reports that the Songwriters Hall of Fame will honor SZA as the 2024 recipient of the eminent Hal David Starlight Award at the 53rd Annual Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Dinner slated for Thursday, June 13th at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.

The Hal David Starlight Award, created in 2004, was named in honor of SHOF Chairman Emeritus Hal David, for his longtime support of young songwriters. Award recipients are presented to “gifted young songwriters who are making a significant impact in the music industry with their original songs,” according to the announcement.

SHOF chairman Nile Rodgers said in a statement: “This is such an exciting time for songwriters and music. Phenomenal artists like Beyoncé and Taylor Swift are pushing the envelope of what success looks like, but who could argue that the last two years belong to SZA. Incredible songwriting, incredible performances, incredible artistry. She so deserves to be the 2024 recipient of the Hal David Starlight Award!”

The organization’s top award, The Johnny Mercer Award, will be presented this year to Diane Warren — marking only the second time that both the Mercer Award and the Hal David Starlight Award will be presented to female artists (in 2019, Carole Bayer Sager took the Mercer prize, while Halsey won the Starlight Award).

Previously announced 2024 inductees include Hillary Lindsey; Timothy Mosley — aka Timbaland; Dean Pitchford; R.E.M. (Bill Berry, Peter Buck, Mike Mills, Michael Stipe) and Steely Dan (Donald Fagen and the late Walter Becker). Veteran hitmaker Diane Warren will receive the prestigious Johnny Mercer Award.

Duke University graduates walk out ahead of Jerry Seinfeld’s commencement speech

Dozens of students walked out of Duke University’s graduation ceremony on Sunday in North Carolina, as actor/comedian Jerry Seinfeld was about to give his commencement speech. Seinfeld was met with boos, with some graduating students walking out, in what is the latest in a wave of anti-war protests that took place at college graduations across the country this weekend.

Videos on social media showed a group of students with Palestinian flags walking down an aisle on the stadium field, filing out of the crowd of graduates at the North Carolina university’s football stadium. Other students and some attendees in the bleachers also stood up from their seats and began walking out of the stadium. Duke University President Vincent Price’s introduction to Seinfeld was drowned out by some people chanting “free Palestine,” while others shouted “Jerry! Jerry!” Seinfeld also received an honorary degree from the school, where his son is currently enrolled and his daughter previously graduated.

The 70-year-old Seinfeld has vocally supported Israel since the Oct. 7 attack by Hamas militants, and has visited the country following the Oct. 7 attack on Israel that sparked the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas.

Family of U.S. airman fatally shot by Florida deputy demands release of bodycam footage

Attorneys for the family of an Air Force airman killed last week by a Florida sheriff’s deputy called Thursday for law enforcement officials to release the bodycam footage surrounding the 23-year-old young man’s death, saying that he had done nothing wrong before being fatally shot.

According to a statement from Okaloosa County Sheriff Eric Aden, the shooting occurred on the afternoon of May 3 when a deputy with the Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of a disturbance in progress at an apartment complex, entered the unit and opened fire. The sheriff said the deputy heard sounds of a disturbance and reacted in self defense after he encountered the 23-year-old.  In its statement, the sheriff’s office said: “our deputy responded to a call of a disturbance in progress where he encountered an armed man. The deputy shot the man, who later succumbed to his injuries.”

The family of 23-year-old Senior Airman Roger Fortson said he was shot while his girlfriend ()who was on a FaceTime call with him throughout the encounter) said that the deputy burst into the wrong unit and fatally shot Fortson when he saw he was armed with a gun. Brian Barr, one of the family’s attorneys, said at a press conference: “He lost his life because they knocked on the wrong door. Mistakes happen. We know that. Humans aren’t perfect. Good people make mistakes. But good people also own their mistakes …You go pick it up and read it. What’s it make you think? It makes you think this happened outside. That this kid was in the middle of a disturbance. And he did something. He instigated this and lost his life. That’s what it makes it sound like. It sounded justified. That’s what they tried to make it sound like. We want to know what happened. We want the mistakes to be owned. We’re not going away until that transparency happens.”

Civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump, who is also representing Fortson’s family, said that they planned to review the body camera video with members of the sheriff’s office later Thursday and that he expected it to be released publicly, adding that the deputy went to the wrong apartment as there was no disturbance at Fortson’s residence and he was alone:  “They took a good guy. They took a patriot from us. Then to put out this narrative that an officer killed a citizen at this apartment complex in self-defense. You put out this narrative demonizing his name as if he did something wrong. Trying to justify an unjustifiable killing. When you make a mistake, you own up to it. You don’t try to justify killing a good guy. Okaloosa sheriff’s office, they need to give him the dignity and respect he so richly deserved.”

Hunter Biden loses bid to dismiss gun charges, federal court sets June 3 trial date

A federal court panel in Philadelphia rejected an appeal by President Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, of three gun charges Thursday, clearing the way for him to stand trial in his home state of Delaware beginning June 3- a first for the son of a sitting president. Hunter Biden was appealing orders issued last month, in which he was denied motions to dismiss two counts accusing Biden of lying about using illegal narcotics when he purchased a Colt Cobra handgun in 2018 and a third count of illegally possessing that weapon. Hunter Biden’s legal team had argued that the lower trial court had to wait for the federal appeals court to rule before it could push ahead with a trial.

A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit in Philadelphia said Hunter Biden could not appeal because the lower court had not yet entered a final judgment in the case. In a four-page order (seen here), the panel dismissed Hunter’s bid to consider having the case thrown out, citing a lack of jurisdiction. Judges Patty Shwartz, Cindy Chung and D. Brooks Smith stated in the order: “This appeal is DISMISSED because the defendant has not shown the District Court’s orders are appealable before final judgment.”

After the appeals court’s ruling, U.S. District Judge Maryellen Noreika, who will preside over the case, ordered the trial of up to six days to begin June 3 in Wilmington, Delaware (per Reuters).

Hunter Biden’s legal team said they will ask the full appeals court in Philadelphia to review the panel’s decision.  A statement from Hunter Biden’s attorney Abbe Lowell reads that “in reviewing the panel’s decision, we believe the issues involved are too important and further review of our request is appropriate.”

Hunter, 54, has pleaded not guilty to all charges, which include two counts of making false statements and one count of firearm possession by an unlawful substance abuser. He faces a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison on the gun charges.

Justin and Hailey Bieber expecting their first baby together

Justin Bieber and wife Hailey Bieber are expecting their first baby together. Hailey, 27, and Justin, 30, shared the news on Instagram where they posted a video from what looks like a vow renewal, showing Hailey wearing a long white dress and a veil, highlighting her baby bump. Hailey also included photos of herself standing with Justin in a field showing him placing his arms around her stomach.

Hailey’s pregnancy comes nearly six years after the couple were married at a New York City courthouse in September 2018, two months after getting engaged. The pair said “I do” for a second time a year later at a lavish wedding ceremony in Bluffton, South Carolina.

The couple have often spoken about becoming parents, and the rumors that constantly surrounded the subject. In a cover article in GQ Hype in October, Hailey addressed whether pregnancy rumors affected her: “Recently, everybody was like, ‘Oh my God, she’s pregnant,’ and that’s happened to me multiple times before. There is something that’s disheartening about, damn, I can’t be bloated one time and not be pregnant? It would be a lie if I was like, ‘Oh yeah, I don’t give a s—.’ When there comes a day that that is true, you, you as in the internet, will be the last to know.”

According to TMZ, sources with direct knowledge shared that Hailey is a little over six months pregnant.
